James “Jim” Guinn, age 81 of Ogallala, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Jim was born at Colfax, Louisiana to William and Minnie (Wilson) Guinn. Jim attended school in Louisiana.
Jim entered the U.S. Army in September of 1948. Following his discharge, he moved to Colorado, where he worked putting up grain bins. He married Josephine Jacobs in January of 1966. Jim eventually came to work as a bus driver for the Regional Transport District of Denver, and later became a bus-driving instructor. After nearly 25 years, Jim retired in 1998. The couple moved to Lewellen to be close to family. Josephine passed away in March of 2013, and Jim moved to Ogallala shortly thereafter.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He loved working with wood as a hobby, and would often be restoring an old piece of furniture or building one of his unique birdhouses. He enjoyed spending time in his yard, perfecting his lawn and working on his flower and vegetable garden.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Guinn; and his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Jacobs.
Survivors include his children, Charles Guinn of the Philippines, Rick Guinn of Afghanistan, Bruce Guinn of Denver, Lucy Guinn of TX, Bonnie (Floyd Knox) Jacobs of Russellville, MO, Peggy Jacobs of Brule, Bobbie (Dick) Roland of Sturgis, SD, Kirwyn "Pam" Jacobs of Grand Junction, CO, Kameron (Jeri) Jacobs of Lewellen, Jody Jacobs of Lewellen; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in the Big Springs Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County Veteran's Organization.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home if Ogallala.
