TIMOTHY E. IWAN, 72, of Ogallala, passed away January 29, 2022, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Tim was born February 17, 1949, at Columbus, Nebraska, to Edward and Darlien (Karges) Iwan. He graduated from Duncan High School with the class of 1967. Tim subsequently graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in Math Education.
On June 5, 1971, Tim married Sandra Michal, and their union would be blessed with three daughters, Denise, Laura, and Diane. The couple made their home in Brule, as Tim was attracted to Lake Mac and the hunting and fishing that the area offered. He taught school for a couple of years before going to work in heating and cooling. Tim would later work for Banker's Life for several years before taking a position with Charleston Inc., where he put his knowledge and experience with HVAC and plumbing to good use. Tim retired in 2011 at the age of 62.
Tim relished early morning trips to the goose pit with his faithful canine friend, Max. He loved fishing on the lake and was fortunate to have taken many trips to Minnesota and Canada with his buddies and family.
Tim also had a passion for cooking. His polish sausage developed its own renown, as did his smoked meats. He also had a great love for fireworks; Fourth of July parties were always special, as they were adorned with excellent food and friendship, set to the backdrop of stunning evening displays.
Tim was a longtime member of St. Luke's Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. He took part in the Big Mac Sports Club and was a charter member of the Oregon Trail Builders.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Elizabeth Iwan; nephew, Chuck Bensley.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sandra of Ogallala; daughters, Denise (Chris) Tesch of Omaha, Laura (Andy) DeVries of Ogallala, and Diane (Andy) Messner of Omaha; grandchildren, Raelyn, Ryanna, Michael, and Reegan DeVries, Aaron and Riley Messner, and Emma Tesch. Survivors also include his siblings, Chuck (Deb) Iwan of Kearney, David (Barb) Iwan of Duncan, and Stephanie (Maynard) Flamme of North Bend; along with many other relatives and friends.
