ALBERT FAESSER, 96 of Ogallala, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant.
Albert was born May 3, 1922, to Johann Faesser and Erna Blum, in Narkevich, Odessa.
Albert served in the German army in the Russian front during WWII. He learned the cabinet maker's trade in Germany after World War II. On December 26, 1945 he became married to Katharina Schepp. They spent their early years in Rottenberg/Laaber, Germany. Sons, Victor and Arthur were born there. In March of 1952 they immigrated to the United States and settled in Ogallala, Nebraska, where Albert and Katie spent their entire lives. A third son, Albert John, was born in the U.S.
Albert was a self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker. He enjoyed a long-term relationship with Micklin Home Improvement Company, and was the foreman for numerous commercial and residential window and door installations throughout Nebraska, and served as a Micklin dealer in the Ogallala area.
Albert was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church. Following his retirement, he was a dedicated blood donor for many years, rarely if ever missing the opportunity to do so. He achieved a 100 pint pin from the American Red Cross.
Albert and Katie were married for 69 years, when Katie passed away January 30, 2015. In their retirement years they enjoyed trips to visit relatives in Germany, gardening, and visits to their sons and grandchildren. They were both active in their parish, and Albert made and donated numerous cedar chests for the annual parish bazaar.
For many years after his retirement, Albert was an avid bicyclist, and could be seen on the golf course road in his daily 8 mile jaunt. The bicycling on the road had to be discontinued during the years Albert cared for Katie at home, but even then he took up a daily regiment on his exercise bike, which he continued after his admission to Indian Hills Manor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie, a brother, and sister.
Albert is survived by his sons, Victor (Irene), Arthur, and Albert (Mary), six grandchildren Christie (Michael) Weston, Monica (Mark) Pomajzl, Heather (Bob) McEvoy, Diana (Joshua) Holthaus, Matt Faesser, and Andy Faesser; twelve great-grandchildren, Jack & Anna Weston, Chloe, Alexis, and Violet Pomajzl, Sara, Thomas and Samantha McEvoy, and Lucas, Isabella, Cecylia and Sophia Holthaus.
A memorial has been established in his memory for later designation. Condolences can be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
