ALTA R. SCHMER, 80 of Keystone, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Alta was born June 6, 1939, at Ada, Oklahoma, to L.R. and Carmen (Ivey) Bettis.
Alta loved the Lord, and her family, friends, and animals-not necessarily in that order. Her children will tell you that she did things her own way, even when others disagreed. She loved reading what she wanted to read, teasing someone who needed it, the fish that made her fishing pole arch, and the bobber bounce, laughing and doing as she pleased. She was a life member of the Colorado Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2551 Auxiliary. Her life's work was in accounting, but she ended her career as Postmaster Relief at Keystone, NE. She disliked hypocrites and crowds.
Alta was preceded in death by her son, Tim Schmer; parents, L.R. and Carmen Bettis; and twin sisters, Tommie Lou Johnson, and Margaret Sue Self.
Alta is survived by her son, Wes Schmer of Ogallala; daughter, Stephanie Holscher of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; future great-kids, a few cousins, countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
