Arlo Dean Olson, 83, of Brule, Nebraska, passed away on December 16, 2024, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Arlo was born on November 14, 1941, in Big Springs, Nebraska, to Ervin Orville Corwin and Viola (Armbruster) Olson. He grew up in the area and graduated from Iliff High School. Following high school, Arlo entered into service with the Army National Guard. He would eventually begin his working career alongside his dad, on the family farm.
In 1971, he married Jean "Bean" Marie Olson, and together, they made a home at Brule, where they raised their children and shared many years together.
A welder by trade, Arlo worked for Olson Mfg and was associated with them through his own welding shop in Brule before transitioning to driving truck in the late 1980s. He retired in 2010. Following Arlo's retirement, he was an active member of the village board for many years. Beyond his career, Arlo had a natural talent for woodworking and took pride in his lathe work, creating pens and other handmade items. He was also an avid pool player and a senior center staple.
Arlo was known for his spicy personality, grit, and determination. He faced life's challenges head-on, overcoming countless health battles, including cancer, strokes, and heart conditions, never losing his fighting spirit. He loved watching football-especially when it came to his favorite teams-and staying informed by way of his favorite channel, Fox News. Arlo also had a big heart for animals.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean Olson, and his sister, Margaret Ladd.
Survivors include his children, Carwin (Marge) Olson of Alliance, Jim (Kandace) Olson of Ashby, Mona Terry of Sutherland, and Teresa (Russ) Skrdlant of Hastings; his sister, Betty (Gary) Nelson of Gordon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Liturgy of The Word will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Brule Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home on Sunday.
A memorial has been established in Arlo's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.
