DANA A. SWEET, 69 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at her home.
Dana was born October 2, 1947 at Tampa, FL to Dwayne and Dorothy (Baker) Conkey. Dana's father served in the armed forces, and as a result, she and her family made their home in many different places before ending up in San Jose, CA. It was in San Jose where she met and married Michael Sweet. The couple moved to Terrell, TX for six years before making their home in Colorado Springs, CO. Dana worked as a legal secretary there for 11 years before eventually going to work for a publishing firm. In 2001, the couple bought a home in Ogallala, where they'd enjoyed vacationing for many years. In June of 2013, following Michael's retirement from Black Hills Energy, the couple made Ogallala their permanent home.
Dana and Michael loved spending time at Lake McConaughy, boating and fishing. They enjoyed the town of Ogallala, and appreciated the warmth they experienced from the community and the wonderful friendships they made with their neighbors.
The last 14 years of Dana's life were challenged by a series of health problems, but she continued to live life to the fullest, traveling to visit family and enjoying an occasional trip to the casinos.
Dana was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Michael Sweet of Ogallala; son, John Michael (Carey) Sweet; daughter, Tammi Hellen Sweet; 3 grand daughters, D'andrea, Kera and Angelica; 6 great grandchildren, Serena, Carisa, Cariella, Annalucia, Santiago and Lyliah.
