DAVID V. MERRITT, 69 of Ogallala, passed away November 15, 2018, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
Dave was born July 26, 1949, at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to William and Cleopha (Kreutzer) Merritt Jr. He graduated from Greeley West High School before attending St. Louis Community College where he studied liberal arts.
Dave eventually made his way to Manchester, Missouri where he took a job at Lucent Technologies. He worked as an engineer in the central office for over 32 years before retiring in 2002. For several years, summers brought Dave to Ogallala to be close to his sister. Finally, Dave moved to Ogallala in 2006 and spent his winters in New River, AZ.
Dave was a gifted archer. He earned countless awards throughout the years including medals in the state games in Missouri, Senior Games for both Nebraska and Missouri, Huntsman Senior Games, as well as the National Senior Games. Dave also enjoyed spending time scuba diving after earning his certification at Lake Mac in 1974. He considered himself fortunate to have been able to dive in so many different places. Dave enjoyed building models, woodworking, fishing, and camping.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dale DeForest; and a cousin, Freddy Kreutzer.
Survivors include his sister, Bernie DeForest of Ogallala; 3 aunts, Rosella Courtney of Aurora, CO, Marilyn Waldschmidt of Loveland, CO, Bernita Carl of The Woodlands, TX; uncle, Fred (Della) Kreutzer of Brighton, CO; along with numerous cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. No committal of cremains is planned at this time.
