Donald ‘Butch’ Dorsey, age 68 of Lemoyne, passed away November 21, 2014 at his home.
Donald Darell Dorsey was born May 10, 1946 in York, Nebraska to Darell and Mildred (Campbell) Dorsey.
Don grew up in York and graduated from York High School with the class of 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and served during the Viet-Nam War in the submarine program. The book and movie “Spy Sub” was based on the experiences and activities of his submarine, the USS Halibut, during the war.
On August 14, 1975 he was married to Dianna Miller at Assumption, Nebraska. Don’s work took them from York to Colorado to Lemoyne where they resided for the past 20 years.
Don worked with waste water treatment operations most of his life. He was a published author on the subject and taught classes for water and waste water certifications at the North Platte Community College and the Colorado School of Mines. He worked many years for HDR Engineering and his projects took him from coast to coast. Don and Dianna spent many years working for the Game and Parks Commission at Lake McConaughey. He and his wife formed the BMES Corporation where he continued his work until his health declined.
Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed every sunrise and every sunset every day of his life. He and Dianna enjoyed their many mini-vacations at Estes Park. Don loved fishing at Big Mack, Nebraska Football, the Denver Broncos, gardening, woodworking, and reading books about military history on submarines. He especially loved spending time with his twin grandchildren and spent as much time as he could with them.
Don is survived by his wife, Dianna of Lemoyne; his son Shane Patrick of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his grandchildren Elli Jo and Liam Shawn of Ft. Collins. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses; Linda (Jim) Ptacnik of Aurora, Nebraska; Michael Dorsey of Fairfield, Nebraska; Barbara (Tom) Harty of San Bernardino, California; Stephanie (Marty) Auman of Aurora, Nebraska and his half-sister Beth (Todd) Cannon of Overland Park, Kansas; and a special friend, Anne Munger.
