DONNA D. PIERCE, 89 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, in Perkins County Hospital at Grant.
Donna was born Dec. 20, 1927, on a farm north of Big Springs to Lee and Vera (Losh) Roby. She graduated from Lewellen High School with the class of 1945.
On April 5, 1947, Donna married Virgil G. Pierce at Scottsbluff. The couple made their home in Ogallala, and their union was blessed with three children. Donna had worked at Safeway and the Keith County Courthouse before eventually taking a position at the Ogallala Medical Clinic. Donna remained with the clinic for 27 years.
Donna loved her family and very much embodied the love that bonded everyone together. She and Virgil were an inseparable pair and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and wintering in Texas together for many years. Donna also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casinos.
She was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the First Congregational Church at Ogallala.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; daughter-in-law, Janet Pierce; sisters-in-law, Agnes Engel, Irene Wood, and Shirley Pierce; brother-in-law, Bill Engel; a niece; and three nephews.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Pierce, and Kevin (Mary) Pierce; a daughter, Darla (Randy) Reimers all of Ogallala; three grandchildren, Cory (Melanee) Reimers, Bowe Reimers, and Amber Pierce, all of Ogallala; three great-grandsons, Cody, Slade, and Cale Reimers; sisters, Betty Tophoj of Oshkosh, Della Wolford of Caldwell, Idaho, and Frances (Bernard) Spencer of Hyannis; sisters-in-law, Ruth Roby of Plattsmouth, and Marie Saunders, Lois Kling, and Carol Jean Creason, all of Ogallala; brother-in-law, Melvin Pierce of Gering; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Donna's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, in the First Congregational Church at Ogallala with Rev. Lisa Hadler officiating. Burial will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Memorial book signing will be from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in the Prairie Hills Funeral Home at Ogallala.
