DORIS I. HIRSCH, 72 of Ogallala, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Doris was born April 17, 1944 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Robert "Bob" and Erma (Hughes) Spangler. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School for the first nine years of her education, prior to attending Ogallala High School. In 1962, Doris married Jerry Waterman and the couple made their home in Big Springs, NE. To this union 4 children were born. Later they divorced. Doris worked at various jobs in the area prior to moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 1989. She moved back to the Brule/Ogallala area in 2002 where she remained until her death.
Doris was all about her family and friends. She was always the entertainer and was at her best when in the presence of those she loved. She was known for, and enjoyed hosting morning coffee, as well as holidays and other events with family and friends. Her home was always the gathering place for all. Her laughter and sense of humor will always be remembered as well as her willingness to help others.
Doris was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters, Gina and Sherri; her parents; 2 brothers, Jerry and Tim Spangler.
Survivors include her children, Chad Waterman (Heather Walker) of Big Springs, Cindy (Scott) Rolls of Sidney; 5 grandchildren, Seth & Laine Waterman, Mitchell, Macie & McGuire Rolls; 3 brothers, Wayne (Carleen) Spangler, Mike (Linda) Spangler all of Ogallala, Lloyd (Sue) Spangler of Norfolk; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Doris' memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Memorial services will be on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs, NE with Rev. Trenton D. Christensen officiating.
Memorial book signing will be on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala, NE.
