DORIS J. THOMPSON, 85 of McPherson County, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Doris Jean Thompson was born to Clifford Otis and Zina Lurene (Kee) Tiffany on September 20, 1929, in Sherman County, NE. She received her education in the rural schools of Logan County and graduated from Baker Rural High School in Stapleton in 1946. She earned a teacher's certificate along with hours from Kearney State College and taught for one year north of Ringgold.
Doris Jean was married to Dean Thompson at the Center Valley Church east of Arthur on August 24, 1947, and taught an additional two years in McPherson County. Dean and Doris bought their small ranch in April before they were married and lived their entire life together there.
Doris Jean accepted the Lord as her Savior at youth camp and was baptized in the North Platte River. She was active in all phases of the American Baptist work in her local congregations and state-wide.
Doris Jean was known throughout the area as a lover of children and cared for "a multitude" of local children. She loved flowers and always raised a bounteous garden to feed her family and to cook for the numerous men who helped Dean with his custom haying.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings, Lurene Zentz, Wayne Tiffany, and Pauline Lutes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years; three children, Barbara (Pat) Golden Perone, Sandra (Chuck) John, and Brian (Jerri) Thompson; grandchildren, Brian (Karen) Perone, Laura Golden, Tom (Stacey) Perone, Jennifer Perone, Tiffany John, Bethanie John and Drew Jetter; and four great-grandchildren. She lives forever in the hearts of those who loved her, her many friends, and in the lives she touched with her deeds of love and mercy.
In lieu of flowers Doris would prefer memorials to her favorite charities which include: KJLT, P.O. Box 709, North Platte, NE 69103-0709; Youth for Christ, 100 Bicentennial, North Platte, NE 69101; Women's Resource Center, 1008 West First St., Ogallala, NE 69153.
