Earl Junior Southard, 77, passed peacefully on July 19, 2014 in Rapid City, SD after a short battle with cancer.
Earl was born December 10, 1936 in Westmorland, KS to Earl and Rachael Southard. Junior attended school in Big Springs, NE.
In 1955, Junior served in the South Dakota National Guard as Private First Class, and transferred to the United States Army Reserves in 1957. In February 1957 until July 1961, he proudly served in the United States Navy.
Junior lived in Rapid City and Gillette, WY and worked in construction as a Drywall Finisher. He loved living in the Black Hills area and could never imagine leaving. Junior specifically enjoyed his morning breakfasts at the Morningside Café and visiting with the staff at Wells Fargo Bank. Junior also enjoyed building models of airplanes and cars.
Junior is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Duncan and family of Connell, WA and Shelly Hayzlett and family of Gillette, WY; a brother and sister-in-law, William and June Southard, brother Roger Southard and close friend Carolyn Galster all of Rapid City; and nine grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Southard; parents Earl and Rachael Southard; sisters, Valeta Southard, Betty Southard, Earleane Southard, Rebecca Southard, Deanna Southard; and his brother, Norman Southard.
Memorial services was held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00pm at Kirk Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Woodard officiating.
A private inurnment will be held on Sunday at the Brule Cemetery.
