EDNA L. BEIGH, 93 of Ogallala, NE, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Edna was born May 26, 1921 at Colome, SD to Steve and Anna (Hauff) Heese. In 1927, the family moved to White River, SD where she grew up along with her brothers and sisters, Elenora, Norman, Lloyd, Mary, Emma and Ramona.
Edna married Ernest Merchen in 1937 at Kadoka SD and they lived in Platte, SD. The couple had four children, Wanda, Arvan, Cleo and Kathy. In 1949 she moved to Sacramento, CA where she was employed for 20 years as Deli Manager and meat wrapper at Lucky's Stores.
Edna married George Beigh in 1962, and after their retirement in 1980, moved to Yreka, CA. The couple purchased and remodeled the Honolulu School House on the Klamath River, where they resided until the death of her husband in 1992. At that time she moved into town and remained there until 2007, when she moved to Ogallala to be close to family.
She enjoyed playing cards, loved to sew and kept busy making craft projects which she gave to family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents; Edna was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Holden; 2 granddaughters, Carolyn Holden, Elsie Milner; and a great grandchild, Amanda Crum.
Survivors include her 3 children, Arvan (Paula) Merchen of Littleton, CO, Cleo (Donald) Crum of Ogallala, and Kathy Merchen of Ogallala; son-in-law, Marvin Holden of KS; grandchildren Marvin Holden, Jr., Debra Pendland, Barbara Logan, Ryan, Jon and Matt Merchen, Donald, Earl and Jack Crum, Ernest and Alan Lautrup, Christine Puente and Carla Eckhoff; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will also be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Friday.
