ELWOOD O. "RED" JENSEN, 90 of Ogallala, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Red was born April 30, 1925 at North Platte, Nebraska to Richard and Sedona (Kelso) Jensen. He attended school in North Platte.
Red spent his early years on the family farm in North Platte before serving in the U.S. Army in areas of Germany throughout WWII. Following his discharge in 1946 Red returned home, was married and blessed with 3 children,
On January 12, 1963, Red married Mildred Wilson in Castle Rock, CO. The couple made their home in Denver, where Red spent many years driving a cement truck. Following his retirement in 1983, Red and Mildred moved to Ogallala to be closer to family. He was a hard worker and wonderful provider for his family. Red and Mildred greatly enjoyed traveling in retirement, and were blessed to be able to visit nearly all of the contiguous United States. One of his favorite destinations was Branson, MO. Most recently, the couple had been living at the Well Life Assisted Living, where they received excellent care.
Red took great pride in his home and yard. He and Mildred would spend hours outside, working to maintain the appearance of their property. Red had a good work ethic and a sharp mind. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Red was preceded in death by his siblings, Alfred Jensen, Dorothy Johnston; Ines Bedford, Mary O'Dell and Anna Steck; son in law, John; a grandson, Johnny; and great grandson, Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jensen of Ogallala; 2 sons, Richard Jensen of Phoenix, AZ, Gene Jensen of Denver, CO; daughter, Janice Darmon of Lefors, TX; step children, Phyllis Richardson of Grant; Gilbert (Bev) Larsen of North Platte; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in his memory for later designation, Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Services will be on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Brueggeman officiating. Cremation will follow, with interment of cremains to be held at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
