Eugenia Mize, age 94 of Ogallala, passed away May 1, 2014 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Eugenia was born November 28, 1919 at Clarksburg, West Virginia to Warden and Ethel (Conrad) Wright. She attended school at Clarksburg.
Following her schooling, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she worked as a CNA at a children’s developmental facility for a number of years. In 1960, the couple moved to Denver where Eugenia worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital for nearly 30 years. On December 6, 1965 Eugenia married Walter D. Mize at Denver. Upon her retirement, she and Walter moved to Ogallala. Just a few years after they moved to the area, Walter passed away. Eugenia remained in Ogallala, as many of the friends that they had made in Denver had also moved to the area.
Eugenia was an avid volunteer, and loved to socialize. She spent a great deal of her time volunteering with the local Moose Lodge and at the Howdy Information Booth found on the edge of town.
Eugenia was a caregiver throughout her life. Throughout much of her life, she worked night shifts as a CNA, and would babysit during the day. She was a nurturer, and served as a motherly figure to even some of her extended family.
Eugenia was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her daughter, Karen Jean Sutherland; a grandchild, Kelly Hickman; and 4 brothers, James, Russell, Billy and Wallace.
Survivors include her son, Marty (Sally) Johnson of Fairmont, West Virginia; son in law, Billy Louis of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Diana, Susan & William Johnson, Steve, Kenneth, Guy and Val Gene Sutherland, Lauren Drainville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside inurnment services will held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ogallala Cemetery with Pastor Eric Wait officiating.
