Evangeline "Vannie" Hagge-Hoover, 95 of Ogallala, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019, at the Journey House at Tabitha in Lincoln.
Vannie was born to Ben and Anna Zakrzewski of Loup City on April 4, 1924, and raised on the farm. She got her schooling at Loup City Public and St Josepha's Catholic School. The family moved to Ogallala in 1942, where she lived for most of the rest of her life. Vannie worked at Goodall Electric/TRW, J.C. Penney, and the McDonald Clothing store. She also drove a 6x6 army truck in the Army Ordinance Plant in Boise, Idaho, from 1944 to1945.
Vannie married Bob Hagge August 18, 1947. Six children were born to their union, Randy, Patti, Julie, Barb, Terri, and Ron. The family moved to McCook in 1965, and later, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Parsippany, New Jersey, from 1974-1981. The family eventually returned to Ogallala. Bob passed away on November 26, 1985. Vannie married Dale Hoover on June 10, 1994.
Vannie was a life long member of St Luke's Catholic Church, where she was very active with church work, including Legion of Mary, funeral committee, cleaning, decorating, and greeting. Vannie always welcomed the priest as part of the family dinner on many occasions. She was a 20-year member of RSVP and delivered Meals on Wheels at the Senior Center. Her love and hobbies were family, dancing, traveling, playing cards, golf, flowers, crafts, and was an avid Husker fan.
Vannie was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Anna, step-dad, Oral Erlewine; 2 spouses, Bob and Dale, daughter, Terri Heusinkvelt; and brother, Clarence, and his wife, Tharon Zakrzewski.
Survivors include her children, Randy and his wife, MaryClaire and family of Winter Springs, FL, Patti and her husband, Dr. Cory Strobel and family of Knoxville TN, Julie and her husband, Dave Schwasinger and family of Ogallala, Barb Hagge and her family and special friend, Bev Harris of Lincoln, Ron and his wife, Suzanne and family of Lincoln; sister, MaryAnn and her husband, Bruce of Fairfield, PA; son-in-law, John Heusinkvelt and family of Ashland; and special friend, BJ Reiselman; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Vannie's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 18, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Father Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. A Rosary and Wake Service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
