GLEN HOWARD TROYER, 88 of Ogallala, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Glen was born September 7, 1928, at Westerville, Nebraska, the son of Jacob and Dollie (Casteel) Troyer. He grew up in Westerville and in 1945 graduated from Ansley High School.
In November of 1950, Glen entered the US Army, where he spent two years as a Combat Engineer in Korea and was awarded a Purple Heart. Following his discharge, Glen attended Kearney State Teachers College where he had earned his Bachelor of Science, Masters and Specialist in Education Degrees. On May 29, 1955, Glen married Shirley Eakins at Paxton, Nebraska. Glen spent many years in Education as a classroom teacher, coach, Principal and Superintendent. He retired in 1994.
Glen was a member of the New Hope Church in Ogallala, where he had spent some time as a board member. He was a lover of all sports and was a 3-sport letter winner himself while at KSTC.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth "Ed" Troyer;
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Troyer of Ogallala; daughter, Pamela (Kelly) Holscher of Ogallala; sons, Steven (Vicki) Troyer of Peach Tree City, GA, Allen (Janice) Troyer of Washington, NJ; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Donna Jo Scruggs of Falling Waters, WV; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Glen's memory to be used in support of wounded veterans and church ministry. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Hope Church in Ogallala with Pastor Eric Wait officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE.
Memorial book signing will be on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
