Jan Nielsen, 62, of Arthur, passed away February 11, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Jan was born June 28, 1958, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Harold Dean and Mary Ann "Ranny" (McMillan) Fenwick. She was raised in Keystone, where she attended rural school before graduating from Ogallala High School with the class of 1976.
In the fall of 1976, Jan married Rick Nielsen. Their union was blessed with two children, Erin and Lee. Jan worked at Front Street and Pioneer Trails before her focus became interior house painting and wallpapering for several years. In 1996, Jan returned to Front Street, which she managed until moving to Arthur in 2005. She managed the Bunkhouse Bar & Grill in Arthur until a cancer diagnosis and subsequent failing health necessitated a slow-down.
Jan loved the outdoors, whether it be canoeing, tanking, hiking, or just soaking in the beauty of the sandhills. She was an adventurous person who loved to travel, cook, and enjoy life to the fullest.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her children, Erin (Jason) Barnhill of Ogallala, Lee (Melinda) Nielsen of Ogallala; grandchildren, Nolan and Oliver; brothers, Mark (Joni) Fenwick of Kearney, Zane (Cody) Fenwick of Keystone; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Jan's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
A celebration of Jan's life is being planned for a later date. No interment of Cremains is planned at this time.
