JON E. "J.B." BARGER, 62 of Paxton, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Tru Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.
Jon was born November 10, 1954 in Sutherland, NE to Harold and Darleen (Dalgran) Barger.
On August 6, 1983, Jon married Juliann "Julie" Kamery at Paxton. The couple made their home in Hastings before moving to Brule, where Jon took a job at the Union Pacific Railroad as a Machine Operator. A couple years later, the family moved to Paxton where Jon owned and operated JB's Sport Spot until 1997.
Jon had a gentleness of spirit that made him very lovable and approachable. As a father, Jon showed remarkable patience, even through the most "teachable" moments that can arise when raising children. He had a somewhat unorthodox sense of humor, that never failed to keep his family and friends entertained. JB, as he was often called, loved to joke, laugh, hunt, fish and tinker. For several years while he owned the bait and tackle shop, Jon organized a massive trout fishing tournament that began at the stroke of 5 a.m., commencing with the resonant sound of canon fire from his homemade black powder canon. This type of moment epitomized the type of man Jon was, and evoked the kind of smirk that he was known for.
For the last 15 years, Jon had suffered perpetually bad health. However, for the last 2 months of his life, Jon felt a sense of rejuvenation that allowed him to spend some very meaningful time with his children and grandchildren at their homes.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julie in 2014; and sister, Sithay Zeleski.
Survivors include his son, Zachary (Jennifer) Barger of Greeley, CO; daughter, Alexanne (Daniel) Wilkerson of North Platte; 4 grandchildren, Brylee, Kylie, Charlee, and Zachary; 2 sisters, Paulette (Steve) Worley and family and Linda Sizer and family; along with many other relatives and friends.
