Lawrence Edward "Larry" Theiler, 87, of Paxton, passed away on December 27, 2024, at North Platte Care Center in North Platte, Nebraska.
Larry was born October 29, 1937, in Paxton, Nebraska, at his grandmother's home, to John and Lucille (Madison) Theiler. He attended Paxton High School, graduating with the Class of 1955.
In 1956, Larry entered the U.S. Army, where he served until his honorable discharge. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Melton, on November 7, 1959, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the two would enjoy 65 years together.
Larry was a dedicated farmer, spending his life working the land and tending to wheat and cattle. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing; he took great joy in teaching younger generations these skills. Larry was the patriarch of the Theiler family and found immense happiness during wheat harvest season when he was always in his element. He served his community in many ways and had been a school board member for Wheatland Schools at Madrid, Nebraska.
Larry is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Paxton; his children, Brycie (Larry) Marine of Maple Grove, MN, Lori (Terry) Day of Madrid, Terri (Scott) Monzon of Valley, Rick Theiler of Omaha, Susan (Erik) Hauserman of Minden; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Debra) Theiler of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Shirley Theiler of Hastings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Theiler; his brother, Robert Theiler; and an infant granddaughter, Amanda Theiler.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on January 3, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr. Bandha as Celebrant. Burial with military honors by the Paxton Honor Guard will follow in the Paxton Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. Rosary and Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton.
Memorials are suggested to Paxton Fire and Rescue in Larry's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the Mass will be streamed live.
