LEROY M SPARKS, 90 of Ogallala, formerly of Brule, NE, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
LeRoy Marvin Sparks was born March 12, 1931, to Guy and Myrrell (Skinner) Sparks, in Chase County, Nebraska.
Roy attended school at Wallace, Nebraska. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1952. He was stationed in the Free Territory of Trieste and was discharged in January 1954.
Roy married Ardis Boehmer on March 28, 1954, in the Trinity Lutheran Church north of Grant.
He was baptized on April 24, 1954, and confirmed in the Lutheran Church on March 15, 1956. After 53 years, Roy & Ardis transferred their church membership to St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule, NE.
Roy worked for Northwestern Telephone Company in North Platte for two years. Roy was transferred to Ogallala, where he worked until retiring after 38 years in 1992. Roy and his son, Mark, farmed and opened H S & S Inc Ceramics, a permanent magnet factory, in October 1984, in Brule, NE.
In 1995, they moved from the farm north of Grant to Brule to be near the business. He was a chartering member of the Ogallala Optimist Club.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ardis, in January 2018, son Mark in November 2007; four-day-old daughter Debra Faye in April 1956, sisters; Ruth Hansen, Alice Bailey, and brothers; Stanley, Lawrence (Joe), Lyle, Glen and brother in law; Wayne Bailey.
Survivors include; daughter-in-law-Lonna Sparks; grandchildren, Elijah Alan Sparks; great-grandchildren; Brianna Kaye Stevens, Zakaria Alan Sparks, and Sydney Justice Sparks, step-grandchildren; Tony & China Dixon, Diane, Pat, and Shane Jones; brothers, David Sparks, Gary Sparks; brother in law, Delbert Hansen; sisters-in-law-Jane Sparks, Bonnie Sparks, Violet Sparks, Greta Sparks; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Leroy's name to the Brule Lion's Club. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule, with Pastor Jon Dickmander officiating. Interment will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery south of Ogallala.
