LOUISE JOHANNA SCHULZ, 84 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
Louise was born November 12, 1934, to Alfons John & Josephine Barbara (Brown) Pieper on a farm south of Scottsbluff, NE. When she was ten, her family moved to the farm where she grew up, located by Chimney Rock near Bayard.
Louise was the eldest of eight children and completed high school in 1953. She attended college and obtained a degree in Elementary Education from St. Mary's College in Omaha. She furthered her education in the summer months at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.
She began her teaching career at Ogallala, NE teaching 4th and 5th grade for three years as one of the first teachers to teach at West 5th Elementary, then taught 5th grade in Rawlings, WY.
She married Henry Schulz Jr. on May 7, 1960. They lived in Sidney, NE for the first couple years and moved back to Ogallala where they operated the family trucking business, Chief Transfer & Storage. Louise worked part-time until her four children were in school. At that time, she began working full-time at Chief Transfer and ran the office right up to her retirement.
Louise was an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church serving as president of the alter society, secretary for the parish council and teaching CCD.
Louise was an avid book reader. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and driving around the lake with her husband.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Alfons and Josephine Pieper; husband, Henry Schulz Jr.; two brothers, Danny Pieper and Alfred Pieper; and son-in-law, Jonathan Proudfit.
She leaves behind her children, Tim (Mindy) Schulz of Ogallala, Liz (Steve) Johnson of Clay Center, Barb Schulz of Omaha, and Ernie (Kelly) Schulz of Ozark, MO; siblings, Mary Zink of Brighton, CO, John (Mardell) Pieper of Rock Springs, WY, Josie (Jack) Mearns of Shoreline, WA, Florence (Bob) Lanier of Kevil, KY, Ellen (Bob) Monroe of Frederick, CO; along with seven grandchildren, David (Azaria) Johnson of Plumas Lake, CA, Brian (Anna) Johnson of Callaway, Douglas Johnson of Clay Center, Timarie (Ryan) Tushner of Valley, Tiffany Schulz of Lincoln, Ryan Schulz, and Hallie Schulz both of Ozark, MO; five great-grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 10:00 am at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Father Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday, August 9, 2019, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 9, 2019, at 7:00 pm at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
