Manford Alton Thornton

December 5, 1955 — July 27, 2024

Manford "Al" Thornton, 68, passed away on July 27, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Al was born December 5, 1955, at Fort Carson, Colorado to Manford O. and Barbara Ann (Link) Thornton. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before studying Theology, Greek, and Hebrew languages at Grace Bible College and Grace University, respectively.

Al's formal studies spilled into a lifelong commitment to the study of the scriptures and the noble pursuit of honing exegetics based on careful analysis of the original languages of the biblical texts. Al wrote substantially throughout his life, from short novels to personal translations of the Gospels and epistles. At the time of his passing, Al was even working on a website to promulgate his work, aside from the standard means of publication. A cancer diagnosis would hamper his plans, in addition to his health. However, Al's work will find new life in the hands of his family, who intend to see his work to fruition.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Manford O. Thornton.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Thornton, and his sister, Peggy (Gordon) Hayden, all of Chappell, along with several other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Al's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

No services or inurnment are planned at this time.

Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
