MARTHA "MARILYN" WIENCEK, 77 of Ogallala, passed away February 22, 2017 at her home.
Marilyn was born September 23, 1939 at Los Angeles, CA to Cliff and Martha (Laverne) Cluckner. She attended high school and business school in the Los Angeles area. Marilyn worked for a few years as an executive secretary for TV personality and variety show host, Steve Allen. She would eventually work with the Neenan Company, which is a development and construction firm in Ft. Collins.
On February 11, 1984, she married Ted Wiencek, and the couple made their home in Ft. Collins, CO. Ted's profession took them to California, where they eventually settled in Bakersfield. Marilyn's health began to decline in 2009, which necessitated a change in lifestyle for the family. Ted and Marilyn moved to Ogallala in March of 2013, as part of a family endeavor with Laurie and Dave Gunn to purchase and operate an RV park south of town. Not long after, the nearly 50 year old RV park was transformed into a top rated operation, known and cited across a host of trip advising platforms as the Sleepy Sunflower RV Park.
Marilyn loved a good movie, and maintained a meticulous movie ratings system that encompassed all of the various films that she'd seen. She also greatly enjoyed cooking a wide variety of dishes, keeping the best of her results in a personal cookbook, which got to be rather thick with recipes over the years. Marilyn was a dog lover, and her furry companions somehow always ended up being a bit spoiled. Mostly, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Mitchell.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Ted Wiencek of Ogallala; her children, Kirsten (Ed) States, Michelle (David) Nierling and Jett (Lynn Ban) Kain; her stepchildren, Deborah Johnson, Laurie Gunn, Ted Wiencek Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Mikah Bellamy, Luke and Cade Nierling, Sebastian Kain; 12 step-grandchildren, Nicole, Benjamin Brett and Andrew Johnson, Kristina Thompson, Stephanie Pawlikowski, Melanie Wheeler, Jake and Josh Gunn, Bailee, Kenna and Cole Wiencek; 2 step great grandchildren, Emilee and Clayton Thompson; brother, Richard Mitchell and her sister Carol Ann Utley.
