MARY ANN BROCK, 85 of Lewellen, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019, at the Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.
Mary Ann was born April 29, 1934, at Lincoln, Nebraska to Phillip and Pauline (Grass) Sommers. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1952.
On February 28, 1953, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Eldon L. Brock Sr. Their union was blessed with three children, Eldon Jr., Mark, and Kevin. The couple made their home in Denver, where Mary Ann worked at Keebler on the cookie line and worked as the Union Steward. Upon retirement, Mary Ann and Eldon made their home north of Lake McConaughy, where they'd been frequenting since the early 1970s.
Mary Ann's life was about family. She was devoted to her husband, who she'd been with since she was eighteen. She cherished time spent with her kids and grandkids and especially loved the moments they shared over the holidays. Mary Ann was "in her element" while with her family, whether it was at the lake camping or fishing, orchestrating one of her famous Easter egg hunts, or celebrating Christmas. She somehow always seemed to catch the biggest fish, when she wasn't, herself being caught by an errant hook. She was an avid collector of dolls and amassed an impressive array of the collectibles. Though Mary Ann did have to come to a tentative acceptance that her doll collection could be a little creepy to her visiting relatives; one particularly mischievous looking doll even earned the nickname, "Chucketta" among the family. When it was time to leave Mary Ann's house, one didn't ever leave empty handed. She would always send people on their way with one of her lovingly prepared "care packages" containing food.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack Sommers; and sister, Judith Irwin.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon Brock Sr. of Lewellen; children, Eldon Brock Jr. of Oshkosh, Mark (Carolyn Krupicka) Brock of Sidney, and Kevin Brock and (fiance Linda Grybko) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kelli and Mike Maahs, Dustin and Katie Brock, James and Allison Brock, Amanda Brock, and Andrew Brock; great-grandchildren, Reese and Trinity Maahs, Leah, Beck, and Savannah (McCready) Brock, Jackson and Emery Brock; brother, James "Jim" (Carol) Sommers of Lincoln; along with many other relatives and friends.
