MERLYN K. WALTER, 76 of Lewellen, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Merlyn was born March 28, 1942, at St. Francis, Kansas to Robert and Alma (Lampe) Walter. He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1960. Merlyn attended Pittsburg State University in Kansas before starting a realty firm, Tri-State Realty, with a group of partners in Pittsburg. In 1978, Merlyn moved to St. Francis to take over his father's farming and ranching operation, where he also opened another realty firm, Walter Realty. Merlyn was eventually introduced to Vicki Knoles through a mutual friend, and the two were later married on November 5th of 1983. The couple made their home in Wray, Colorado where Vicki had owned and operated a furniture store and interior design business. Merlyn joined her at the store with his real estate business. The two made an excellent pair, as they were like-minded and shared a strong work ethic. Together, they also worked on Merlyn's ranch and shared a love for fishing and time outdoors. After selling their business, Vicki and Merlyn moved to Lewellen Nebraska to retire near Lake McConaughy. They also enjoyed purchasing and selling antiques.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki in 2015; and his father.
Survivors include his children, Bob Walter of Sundance, WY, Lee Walter of Everett, WA, Diane and her husband Jason Frazier of McPherson, KS; his step-daughters, Dawn and her husband Brent Evans of Haigler, Denise and her husband James Herman of Greeley, CO; mother, Alma Walter of Wray, CO; 9 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Linda (Edd) Williams of Wray, CO, Nancy (Ed) Turner of Phillipsburg, KS; family friend & caregiver, Raedell Winston of St. Francis, KS; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala with Reverend Chuck Rager officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ash Creek Cemetery northeast of Lewellen.
