Milton "Mick" Riley Ford passed away on October 28, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital.
Mick was born to Clyde Riley and Grace Eleanor Hoover Ford at Big Springs, NE. on May 1, 1941, joining brother Rodney Lee Ford.
In his early years, the Ford family lived on a farm Southeast of Big Springs, NE., where Mick attended country school his first three years. In the late 1940s, Clyde and Grace moved to Big Springs, where Mick excelled in academics, football, and basketball. Mick graduated from Big Springs High School in 1958.
After high school, Mick attended Kearney State College in Ne, Santa Rosa College in CA, and the University of Arizona at Tempe, AZ. In 1964 Mick returned to Big Springs to marry Sue Curry on December 27, 1964, at Ogallala NE.
Hadley Motor Carriers employed Mick from 1964-1968. Mick and Sue lived in Denver, CO, Downey, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT, before returning to Ogallala, NE, to work with his father-in-law on the Robert G. Curry farm and ranch. When Interstate 80 opened, the Ogallala Union 76 soon followed and Mick joined Union 76 as a shift manager.
On February 24, 1970, Mick and Sue welcomed daughter Siri Sue Ford to their family. In the mid-1970s, Mick became part owner/manager of MCM Truck Equipment & Repair, after which Mick spent the remaining years in Agriculture related fields until his retirement.
Mick was a life member of the Ogallala Elks 1760 and Ogallala Masons. In his younger years, Mick enjoyed league bowling and he enjoyed hunting his entire life. Mick and Sue loved to attend their grandaughter's school events, including mock trial, plays, speech meets, volleyball, and basketball games.
Mick is survived by a daughter, Siri Sue Ford (Ken) Reed; granddaughters, Stephanie Steiner, Morgan Reed, and Diana Reed; great-grandchildren, Dallas Carter and Aubree Lucile Reed, Macksen Michael, and Walker Lee Burnett.
Mick is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ford, in September 2021, and his brother, Rodney Ford, in 2005 and his parents.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 2 pm at the Ogallala Cemetery, with Pastor Lisa Hadler officiating.
The Ford family is requesting that their close friends and family meet them at the cemetery and that you dress warm and casual as that is what Mick would have wanted. If inclement weather, the service will be held at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
