Mildred Oakley Feldges, age 96, of Ogallala, formerly of Tiskilwa, Illinois passed away peacefully Thursday evening, December 26, 2019, at Indian Hills Manor, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 14, 1923, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, the daughter of John and Emma (Davenport) Strader. She was one of nine children born to that union.
On July 19, 1942, she married the love of her life Fred Eugene Feldges in Kahoka, Missouri. They made their home and raised their two children in the Tiskilwa area. One of their favorite hobbies was making homemade crafts where Gene would use his woodworking skills and Oakley her love of painting and flowers to create some wonderful homemade items that are sure to be displayed in many homes to this day. Oakley lived in Tiskilwa until her husband of 66 years passed away on May 10, 2009, when she then moved to Ogallala, Nebraska.
Oakley was an amazing homemaker, and her specialties were her apple pies, sugar cookies, and roast beef and mashed potatoes. She had a love of gardening, especially her beautiful flowers. She was always up for a game of cards and loved having visitors come to her home. Oakley found the most happiness when surrounded by her family and friends. She was loved by everyone she met and has many extended 'family members' as she always made them feel so loved and included in her life.
She was preceded in death by husband, Fred "Gene"; sisters Clara, Callie, Ada and Vallie and brothers Frank, Robert, Harry, and Harold.
Oakley is survived by son Richard (Colette) Feldges of Evanston, Illinois and daughter Sandra (Larry) Deckert of Ogallala, Nebraska, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Kathryn Gorman. She was a member of Grace Point Baptist Church.
A memorial has been established in Oakley's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
