OPAL M. (COGILL) FISCUS, 84 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Opal began her journey on earth on January 20, 1933, at Whitman, Nebraska, born to Pearl Marion and Effie Pauline (Abbott) Cogill. She attended country school in the area before attending Alliance High School.
On April 30, 1949, she married the love of her life, Bill Fiscus; and the couple was blessed with four children, Florence. Miles, Roy, and Will. Opal was a rancher's wife, working side by side with her husband doing everyday ranching duties. They faced excitement and fears, laughter and tears. Opal loved the outdoors and the beautiful sand hills.
Opal began her new adventure into Heaven after 84 years, 8 months and 3 days. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and a member of Whitman Women's Club. In her own words, "I've had a wonderful life. 'Til we meet again. Happy Trails!"
Opal was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Bill Fiscus; her parents; sister, Lola Espersen; a niece and nephew.
She will live on in those she leaves behind; the greatest joys of her life, a daughter, Florence (Floyd) Bacon of Lemoyne; 3 sons, Miles (Jeanne) Fiscus of Lisco, Roy (Marlys) Fiscus of Gordon, and Will (Dawn) Fiscus of Cheyenne, WY; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Opal's memory for later designation by the family. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
Services will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Hyannis, NE. Burial will be in the Whitman Cemetery south of Whitman, Nebraska. No visitation is planned; however, guests may sign Opal's memorial book on Monday, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
