Orva Larson, age 98 of Ogallala, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Indian Hills Manor.
Orva was born October 20, 1915 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Edwin and Ida (Block) Kampfe. Orva’s family moved to Brule, Nebraska when she was 11 years old, and she went on to graduate from Brule High School in 1933. Orva attended the Lamont School of Music Denver.
Following her education, Orva returned to Brule where she taught piano lessons. On June 16, 1939, she married Avon Larson. The couple made their home in Brule their entire married lives, and their union was blessed with 3 children, Dennis, Darrell and Marlene. While in Brule, Orva worked at the Kampfe Store, which was owned by her father and 2 brothers. In 2008, following the passing of her husband, Orva and her daughter, Marlene, moved to Ogallala where they resided at the Welcov Assisted Living together.
Orva was a longtime member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brule, where she had played the organ for over 65 years. Orva was a charter member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Brule Lioness Club.
Music was always a passion for Orva, and she continued to play even into her advanced years.
Orva was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Lester Kampfe; 2 sisters, Regina Bradley and Verla Heger; and stepbrother, John Fahrlander.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Dennis (Barbara) Larson of Jacksonville, FL, Darrell (Pat) Larson of Aurora, CO; daughter, Marlene Larson of Ogallala; brother, Harold (Beatrice) Kampfe of Brule; stepsister, Carol Campbell of Boulder City, NV; 5 grandchildren; Dennis, Jr., Christopher, Eric, Lori and Brandon; 2 great grandchildren, Ava and Evan; along with many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brule with Reverend Jon M. Dickmander officiating. Burial will be in the Brule Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.
