PATRICIA ALICE RHOADES, age 89 of Big Springs, passed away June 17, 2016 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Patricia was born November 28, 1926 in Deuel County, Nebraska to Cecil and Jane (Armstrong) Stanley. She attended District 30 rural school, where she would meet her eventual husband, and went on to graduate from Big Springs High School with the class of 1944. Pat completed a year of normal training for elementary school teaching before attending Nebraska Wesleyan University.
On May 26, 1948, Pat married Lester Rhoades at the United Methodist Church in Big Springs. The couple made their home in Big Springs and were blessed with 5 children.
Pat was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she held various offices in different groups over the years. She was a member of the Neighborette and Friendship Clubs in Big Springs. Pat was a charter member of the Big Springs High School Alumni Association, and had been active in the Delta Zeta Sorority since college. Her remaining sorority sisters had been faithfully meeting every year for 54 years.
Pat enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing and embroidery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; an infant son, Leslie Stanley Rhoades; 2 brothers, Barry and John Stanley and 1 sister, Leah Anderson.
Survivors include her 4 children, Nadine Kwiatek Jacksonville, FL, Teresa Lutz of Columbus, Stanley (Michelle) Rhoades of Big Springs, Kenneth Rhoades of Big Springs; 7 grandchildren, David Kwiatek, Sarah Scott, Paul Kwiatek, Brian Lutz, Kevin Lutz, Claudia Rhoades, Caden Rhoades; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Welton (Nancy) Stanley of Middleton, ID; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in her memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Services will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Big Springs with Pastor Bun Koo Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Big Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
