Rebecca Jo "Becca" Nelson, 37, of Ogallala, entered into eternal rest, along with her infant son, Behlen Timothy, on October 16, 2024.
Becca was born April 8, 1987, at Fort Riley, Kansas, to Sheila Irene (Cameron) and Norman Timothy Backstrom. She graduated from Clay Center Community High School with the class of 2005, before earning her degree in Elementary Education at Fort Hays State University.
On March 24, 2018, Becca married Pete Nelson at Grace Point in Ogallala. Their marriage was a union of love and dedication, blessed by their children, Lettie and Acre. Becca had a heart of gold and lived for her family. She cared deeply for her children and embraced her vocation as a homemaker after completing her student teaching. Becca was selfless, always putting her family and others before herself.
Known for her warm heart and nurturing spirit, Becca had a way of bringing happiness to those around her. She was incredibly thoughtful, and recognized the special days of everyone she knew, going to elaborate lengths to make birthdays special, from special cakes to balloon arches (with the assistance of her family, who she lovingly strong-armed). Becca had a little-known ornery streak that would manifest itself in pranks when in the proper company. On the whole, she embodied the role of a caregiver, and her heart was filled with faith, love, and kindness. She did not eat the bread of idleness, and in her blessings, she blessed those around her, especially her husband and children. Becca gave freely and generously of her friendship, but her heart belonged to her Lord and her family.
Becca had the gift of hospitality, with a charism for making people feel welcome and at peace. She was a phenomenal cook, and when she brought meals to the harvest field, everyone felt blessed. Becca's cooking was technically delicious, but her loving intent somehow made her meals all the more satisfying. She had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life and truly cherished being a farmwife, a role that she grew into with such excellence and dignity.
Becca's faith was her cornerstone. She had a deep relationship with Christ, which sustained her through life's trials and joys. She loved to study and discuss God's word and loved participating in Bible studies. The Lord directed her steps, and Becca knew where her many blessings came from. The most recent blessing was a son, Behlen Timothy, who would join her in the Heavenly embrace of Jesus. He was already deeply loved by his family, and his life was woven with love into Becca's.
Preceding Becca in death are her grandparents, Lawrence and Virginia Cameron, Marilyn Shepherd, and Norman Backstrom.
She is survived by her loving husband, Pete Nelson, of Ogallala; their children, Lettie and Acre; her parents, Norman Timothy and Sheila Backstrom of Clay Center, KS; siblings, Emily Backstrom, Thad & Ksenija Dugan of Topeka, KS, Chris & Vanessa Dugan of Denver, CO; brother, Norman "Timothy" Backstrom Jr. of Littleton, CO; sister-niece, Alena Dugan; parents-in-law, Brent & Mary Jane Nelson of Ogallala; siblings-in-law, Byron Nelson and Emily Nelson; special nieces, Ruby, Cora, and Neve; Jo Carson, her namesake, close family friend, Joe Newmeyer, both of Clay Center, KS; along with many aunts, uncles, other relatives, and dear friends.
