Rhetta Kent Crandell, age 75, a longtime Ogallala and Brule resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Bryan Ernest as celebrant.
Rhetta was born December 16, 1937 at Olathe, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel and Virginia (Gehrig) Robinson. She married Edward Crandell on June 6, 1957 at Dalton, Nebraska.
Rhetta had been employed by Indian Hills Manor and the Sedgwick County Hospital as well as babysitting well into her retirement. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, Husker and Denver Bronco football, All Star Wrestling and spending time with her family. She had been a resident of the Sutherland Care Center since 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Sally Crandell of Ogallala; sons, Roger Crandell of Brule and Edward Crandell, Jr. and wife Nancy of Cedar Falls, IA; brothers, Bill, Richard and Rhett; sisters Hazel and husband Bob, Gini, Margie, Rogene, Debra and husband Rich and Pamela and husband Earl; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Crandell, Sr.; her parents, Samuel and Virgina Robinson, one brother and two sisters.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the Ash Hollow Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Sutherland Grade School in Rhetta’s memory.
