Richard Newman

Richard Allen Newman, 68, of Ogallala, Ne passed away November 12th, 2024. Cremation was chosen. Online Condolences may be made at www.prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

Richard, also affectionately known as "Rick" to some or "Red Dog" to others, was born December 24th, 1955, in Tacoma, Washington. He was raised for most of his youth in Spanaway, Washington and finished his adolescent years in Buckley, Washington. He was born to Betty Boyce and Charles Newman. He was the older brother to siblings Dave Westby, Dan Westby, Jim Westby and Vicki Hamblin; Richard is father to Travis Newman and five daughters: Desiree Knoles, Sheila Jimenez, Renae Davis, Penny Saxton, and Melanie Saxton. Rick married the love of his life Julie Newman on February 8th,1986.

Richard's hobbies include his Harley Davison motorcycle, woodwork, leatherwork and drawing. He also enjoyed camping and 4-wheeling on the beach with family and friends. Richard was rough around the edges but had the kindest heart. He found peace and solace when surrounded by family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren found comfort in his bear hugs and in the warmth of his laugh.

Richard had a very rich sense of humor; his jokes often incited an uproar of laughter from family and friends. His face often turned beet red the more he laughed which in turn caused even more laughter to ensue. Richard Allen Newman is extremely loved by his wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Richard will be remembered and missed very much by his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 40+ years Julie Newman; children Travis Newman and Desiree (Micheal) Knoles, Sheila Jimenez, Renae Davis, Penny Saxton, and Melanie Saxton; siblings Dave and Dan Westby, and Vicki Hamblin, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by mother, Betty Boyce; brother, Jim Westby; granddaughter, Shianne Thompson, in addition to his grandparents and great-grandparents.
