Robert William Lauer, 97, of Gothenburg, NE, passed away on August 9th, 2023, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant, NE, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born October 22, 1925, on a farm north of Cozad, NE, to William" Bill" H. and Wilhelmina" Minnie" (Miller) Lauer. He attended rural schools in Dawson County before enlisting in the US Army, bravely serving in the T5 Army division during World War II.
Robert married Jeanette Griffith on September 16, 1951. They made their living farming until 1977, at that point Bob worked for an irrigation company until it closed. While working for the irrigation company, Bob started his own successful business installing underground sprinkler systems until he retired at the age of 93.
Bob and Jeanette were blessed with 68 years of enduring love. They enjoyed countless hours on the square dance floor and with friends of camp and dancers. What started as a chance meeting with friends blossomed into a full-filled life of loving memories. Their union was blessed with five children, Steve, Dan, Sherri, Terri, and Angie.
Robert's dedication to his family was unwavering. He took immense pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren and was always there to support and guide them. Bob and Jeanette were known to entertain friends and family with homemade pies and homemade ice cream.
Bob was a proud patriot and dedicated family man. His life exemplified Christian faith, unwavering love, and his legacy is one of faith, service, commitment, and family.
Robert is survived by his two sons, Steve Lauer of Brule, NE, Dan (Teresa) Lauer of Norton, KS; three daughters, Sherri (Garon) Stewart of Ogallala, NE, Terri (Brian) Commins of Ogallala, NE, Angie (Steve) Mueting of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Jessie Lauer of Brule, NE, Joy (Dustin) Mitchell, Sean (Peggy) Lauer, Brock (Kourtney) Lauer, Baylee Stewart, Payton Stewart, Brittney Commins, Rylan (Samantha) Commins, Chelsey Talbott, Kylee Commins, Jayme (Brevin) Book, Jaedy Commins; and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; grandson, Scott Lauer; parents, William and Wilhelmina; sister, Irene Janssen; brother, Melvin Lauer; in-laws, Raymond Janssen, Dalilah Lauer, LaVon Lauer, Jolene Lauer, David (Diane) Griffith, LaVern Griffith, Georgana Griffith, Irene (Tom) Oliver, and Dorothy Mangis.
Memorials are suggested to Gothenburg Senior Center, Trinity Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, or St. John's Lutheran Church in Ogallala in memory of Bob. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.
Services will be on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Ogallala, with Pastor Albert Bader officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted prior to the service at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
