Robert "Bob" H. Koester, 90, of Ogallala, passed away July 2, 2022, in Grand Island.
Bob was born January 18, 1932, at Sidney, Nebraska, to Henry and Rose (Salber) Koester. Bob was raised on a farm 10 miles east of Peetz, Colorado, and attended country school before graduating from Saint Patrick's High School at Sidney with the class of 1950.
Bob entered the US Navy in November of 1951, where he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953.
On February 21, 1956, Bob married Bonnie J. Rice. Their union was blessed with two children. The couple lived in Sidney, where Bob worked for BS&B Oil Company. He eventually went to work for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1970, his work took him to Oshkosh where he later bought into a construction company specializing in land leveling, dams, and terracing. In 1995, Bob downshifted to a more relaxed pace of life, finally retiring in 2004, when he and Bonnie moved to Ogallala. Never one for idleness, Bob would help the Svoboda's part-time at the car wash.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and a grandson, Drake.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Ogallala; children, Cindy Koester Fremont, Greg Koester (Josie) of Gibbon; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Ed; a sister Geraldine; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in Bob's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala, with Father Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
