Ruth M. Colson

Ruth Marie Colson passed away on Friday morning, February 19, 2016 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Ruth was born May 24, 1928 on the farm north of Keystone, the second child of Charles and Esther (Johansen) Bannon. She was the last baby baptized in the Keystone Catholic/ Protestant Church. Ruth attended school at Keystone until her family moved to Paxton in 1944. She graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1946.
Ruth was married to Orville Keith Colson on April 1, 1948 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton. To this union, four children were born. Ruth was glad that she could raise her children in western Nebraska, where they all learned to enjoy nature's wonders. She was a rural mail carrier out of Elsie, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved reading, and for many years read a book a day. Ruth belonged to the Book Club at the Paxton Library. She was the current President of Paxton's American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the auxiliary of the Forty & Eight.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Raymond Bannon, and a sister, Eileen Moul.
She is survived by her four children; Charles of Catlin, IL, Richard and his wife Vicki, Edward and his wife Pat, all of Paxton, and Mary and her husband Jeff Brown, of Prescott Valley, AZ, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn, her sisters, Dorothy Mueller of Littleton, CO, Sheila Moul of Puyallup, WA, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in Ruth's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared online at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton on Wednesday February 24, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Father Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton.
