Sharyl Pankonin

Sharyl R. Pankonin, age 75, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away surrounded by her loving family.

Sharyl was born on May 24, 1947, in Ogallala, NE, to Floyd and Helen (Rector) Brooks. She graduated from Ogallala High School with the Class of 1965. 

Following her graduation, Sharyl enlisted in the US Army, where she served from 1965 until her honorable discharge in 1968. She worked in communications and intelligence during her time in the military.

After her military service, Sharyl earned her LPN and made a career working in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health care. She had a deep love for dogs and horses, and enjoyed spending time with her beloved animals.

In 1976, Sharyl married Dennis, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Sharyl was known for her love of animals. 

Sharyl was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Helen; step-father, Donald Peterson; her husband, Dennis; brothers-in-law, Marvin Suhr, Clinton McQueen and Terry Davis. 

Survivors include her children, Kerrie (Kelly) Conway of North Platte and Dan (LuAnn) VanCura of Palisade, Amy Pankonin of North Platte; grandchildren, Trenton, Soniea, and Michelle; siblings Sondra Sharkey of Ogallala, Deb (Lynn) McCaig of Lincoln, Brad (Cheryl) Brooks of Lamars, IA, Jan Davis of Gretna, and Brian Brooks of Ogallala, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial contributions in Sharyl's memory can be made to the Perkins County Animal Shelter. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Ogallala Cemetery with Pastor Curtis Tschetter officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Keith County Veterans Organizations.
