Shawn Patrick Dehning

Shawn Patrick Dehning passed away on January 7, 2025, at his home in Big Springs. Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held at Big Springs Assembly of God Church on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. Shawn was born in North Platte, NE on February 20, 1991, to Mark and Peggy Dehning. He lived on the farm between Big Springs and Brule his entire life until he moved in with Grandma Twyla to help take care of her until she passed away.

He went to school in South Platte in Big Springs, playing football and basketball, and competing in track. He graduated in 2010. Shawn was a Blue Knight for the rest of his life, never missing many sporting events or other activities the school would put on.

Growing up, Shawn also showed several animals in 4-H including sheep, calves and pigs. He loved the Cornhuskers and would religiously follow the football, basketball and volleyball teams. Shawn greatly enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews participate in their sporting events and activities. He had a strong love for his two dogs, Cooper and Bella as well.

Shawn enjoyed going camping with his dad and Mary Dale. One of his favorite trips was going to camp at Custer State Park in South Dakota for the annual buffalo round-up. He also operated his own lawn and handyman service in the area for many years. Shawn always helped anyone out in any way that he could.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Marion and Twyla Dehning; his aunt Patty Johnson, and a niece Morgan Rae Dehning.

Shawn is survived by his father Mark (Mary Dale Ness) Dehning of Brule; mother Peggy Dehning of Big Springs; grandparents Don and Mary (Babe) Phelan, also of Big Springs; brothers Troy (Rachelle) of Gordon, NE, Christopher (Traci) of Gregory, SD, Matthew (JoAnn) of Edinburg, TX, Andrew (Megan) of Oshkosh, NE, as well as Jordan Dehning of Big Springs; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; special nephew Nic Dehning, as well as special friend Adam Hayward.
