STEVE MULLEN, 74, of Lewellen, NE, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Steve was born September 8, 1946, at Marysville, Kansas, to Gilbert F. and Mary A. (Grauer) Mullen. He graduated from Marysville High School with the class of 1964.
On November 14, 1964, Steve married Sheryl A. Johnson at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville, KS, and their union was blessed with two daughters, Shelly and Shandra. In February of 1966, Steve entered the U.S. Army, and served several years, including reserve service, until 1972. The couple lived in Kansas until 1968 when Steve took a job at Martin Marietta in Denver. Steve remained with Martin Marietta (later Lockheed Martin), where he had worked as a Senior Quality Engineer and later, Manager of Non-Destructive Testing. In 2001, Steve and Sheryl moved to Phillipsburg, KS, to be closer to family, and in 2006, the couple moved to the north side of Lake McConaughy.
Steve had a great love and appreciation for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was an accomplished and well-practiced guide for both. Steve and Sheryl had fished countless Walleye tournaments together over the years, taking home their fair share of glory and fishing tales. Steve had a mind for problem-solving that ultimately led him to develop his own lures and techniques. Mostly, Steve loved to use the outdoors as a canvas for creating unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Steve had a playful and happy demeanor. He enjoyed sharing a good laugh, and, at times, his orneriness would smile upon those around him, always in good-natured fun. Steve was a good man, an honest man. The legacy of Steve's life will elicit warm smiles, happy tears, and nodding chuckles in its soft wake.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ellen Driggs, and a granddaughter, Courteney Saeman.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl of Lewellen; daughters, Shelly (Craig) Saeman of Denver, CO, Shandra (Tim) McNerney of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren, Shauna (Brian), Steven, C.J., Jacqueline (Brad), Megan, Tyler, Tyler, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Isabella, Quentin, Aksana, Vincent, William, and Steven (arriving in April); brother, Kirby (Peggy) Mullen of Kirwin, KS; sister, Susan (Dwight) Wood of Tallassee, AL; along with many other relatives and friends.
