Thomas J. Linn, Jr., 86, of Ogallala, formerly of Canyon Country, California passed away at the Ogallala Community Hospital on Friday, November 8, 2013. Tom was born on March 31, 1927 in Paxton. He was the oldest of 4 children born to Thomas J. and Helen (Terry) Linn. He grew up in the Paxton community and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1944. Following his graduation Tom moved to the west coast. He served with the Merchant Marine during World War 2. He then served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Tom was married to Phyllis Elliott in 1950. They made their home in California where Tom was involved in the auto parts business.
Tom was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and spent a lot of time hunting, backpacking, fishing and travelling throughout the western United States. Following the death of his wife in 2002 he became a yearly visitor to Nebraska to hunt pheasants. In 2011 he purchased a home in Ogallala and in August of 2012 he made Ogallala his official residence.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Tom was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Dorothy; and brother in law, Adolph Holscher.
Tom is survived by his sister, Donna Holscher of Ogallala and his brother, Melvin (Mary) Linn of Morrison Colorado; nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gubser Funeral Home with John Long, officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Paxton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
