Velma Bailey, age 90 of Lincoln, former Paxton and Ogallala resident, passed away October 27, 2014 at the Tabitha Health Care Journey House in Lincoln.
Velma was born January 3, 1924 at Ogallala, Nebraska to Albert and Nellie (Miles) Fell. She graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1941.
Velma worked at Goodall Manufacturing until she married Amos J. Bailey on February 14, 1948. The couple made their home in Ogallala for 5 years before moving to Paxton in 1953. Velma worked at the grocery store in Paxton for 15 years, and went on to work part-time at the Ogallala Country Club for 15 years. Throughout her time at the grocery store and country club, she also drove the morning school bus. Her working life ended in 1989, when her health necessitated her retirement. Mr. Bailey preceded Velma in death in June of 2008. Most recently, Velma had been living in Lincoln to be closer to her family.
Velma enjoyed bowling as well as playing golf and bridge. She also enjoyed her many friends in the community and always enjoyed supporting the Paxton Tigers at sporting events.
In addition to her husband, Velma was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Cecil and Leland.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma (Randy) Coleman of Lincoln; son, Myron “Mike” (Rhonda) Bailey of Lincoln; grandchildren, Andrea Coleman, Allison (Jeff) Aernie, Arica Coleman, Lindsey (Matt) Major, Kirstin (Casey) Culhane, Caitlin and McKenzie Bailey; great grandchildren, Abigail, Chloe, Rebekah Aernie; Gabrielle, Jack, Sam, Charlie Major; Ella, Cooper, Marley Culhane.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Paxton with Reverend Kolawole Akinnigbagbe officiating. Inurnment will be in the Paxton Cemetery.
A visitation for memorial book signatures will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
