Wanda L. Peters

July 10, 1936 — April 30, 2023

WANDA LEE PETERS, 86, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on April 30, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family.

Wanda was born on July 10, 1936, in Oshkosh, Nebraska, to Joseph "Joe" and Fern (Melius) Burke. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1954 and studied in Omaha, where she became a phlebotomist. Wanda worked for a doctor in Oshkosh and later at the clinic in Ogallala.

Wanda married Pete Peters on February 18, 1958, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Oshkosh. They made their home in Ogallala for a short period before moving to their farmstead south of Roscoe, where they raised their family and worked together in farming and raising cattle. Wanda stopped working shortly after their marriage to dedicate herself to her family.

Wanda had a wonderfully thoughtful nature. Wanda was always committed to expressing her care for others, whether it was through sending a thoughtful card or providing a comforting meal. She always modeled placing the needs of others before her own.

Wanda was a classy and loving woman, a true matriarch of her family. Her nurturing spirit touched several generations of family, who would come to see her as a mother. She was a steady and quiet presence, full of gentleness. She and Pete shared an incredible bond and exhibited a model for love throughout their 64 years together. Wanda also deeply loved her children and grandchildren.

Wanda was a longtime cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with an exceedingly rare form of stomach cancer in her thirties. Her experience with cancer inspired her to participate in several Relay for Life walks as a survivor, and she volunteered for hospice, providing comfort to others who were facing similar challenges. She was an active member of PEO. Wanda was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives. She had also volunteered on the Roscoe Election Board for many years.

The family wishes to extend a special word of thanks to Wanda's caregivers: Bonnie, Daisy, Patty, Michelle, and Lori.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Peters; her parents; and a sister, Lois Sodamann.

She is survived by her children, Shane (Deb) Peters of Harrison, Tracy (Curt) Brown of Omaha, and Jill (Shawn) Skinner of Ogallala; four grandchildren, Kim (Andrew) Kuehl, Andrew Brown, Cole (Mara) Peters, and Michael Brown; two step-grandchildren, Brock and Merritt Skinner; and three great-grandchildren, Gracyn, Hudson, and Nicklinn Peters.
