ZACKERY A. SCHNABEL, 19, of Brule, NE, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the McCook Community Hospital as a result of an automobile accident.
Zack was born October 14, 1996 at Ogallala, Nebraska to Leon and Melanie (McConnell) Schnabel. He attended school in Big Springs and was a member of the graduating class of 2015.
Zack had worked a few years at the Goodall Recreation Center in Ogallala before going to work as a ranch hand for his uncle. Zack loved working with the horses and cattle; he was in his element while spending time in the outdoors. Zack was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was gregarious and loved to laugh and have fun. Zack was easy to talk to, and had a way of making friends easily. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who called him friend.
Zack was a lifelong member of the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts, and had proudly obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Zack is lovingly survived by his parents, Leon and Melanie Schnabel of Brule; brother, Kristopher Schnabel of Ogallala; maternal grandmother, Marilyn O'Byrne of Trenton; paternal grandfather, Noel Schnabel of Benkelman; aunts, Melissa and husband James Dailey of Stratton, Megan O'Byrne of Allentown, PA, Ronda and husband Pat Lewis of Trenton, Chris and husband Roger Smith of McCook; uncles, Hugh and wife Emily O'Byrne of Trenton, Alan and wife Virginia Schnabel of St. Roberts, MO; special friend, Nicole Dewey of McCook; 12 cousins, Amber Buresh, Kindra Ndebele, Shawn Smith, Josh Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Rebekah Gillespie, Matt Schnabel, Mike Schnabel, Kyle Dailey, Logan Dailey, Jana Claire O'Byrne, and many other relatives and friends.
Zack was preceded in death by grandparents, Mack McConnell, John O'Byrne and Claudia Schnabel.
A memorial has been established in Zack's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Bryan Ernest as Celebrant and Fr. Lothar Gilde as Concelebrant. Burial will follow in the Brule Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Monday at the St. Luke's Catholic Church.
